Lamenting the Day

Yesterday was one of those days that you know won't leave you quickly.  The shooting at the Aurora movie theater hit too close to home, literally.  We live just about 5 minutes away from the theater and I often take my kids there to engage in a little break from reality.  It's heartbreaking to think that these people went to the movies hoping to enjoy themselves, and in just a matter of minutes all those lives were forever changed; and not just theirs, but all of ours. What kind of world is it when little children are cut down and lives are cut short, just down the street from us?  But this is happening ALL OVER THE WORLD!  We are fortunate that these things rarely happen at our doorstep, but for so many, this is a way of life.

It's too soon for me to make much sense of this, other than to be outraged at the senselessness and irrationality of all of it, but I know that Lola would be well on her way to finding a bit of understanding in the ruins of this day.

Lost and Found

Hello, name is Lola. Ok, it's not really Lola, but I was Lola, then I lost her. This blog is a step in the journey of rediscovering her. Presently I am a 40-something year old woman who has taken her midlife crisis by the rather long, scary horns and returned to school.  My newly chosen profession of nursing suits my need to care for others, as well as providing for my small clan of human-kids and fur-kids, once I finish my studies, that is. While nursing will be my profession, I have many other passions, or I did, until life and grown-up responsibility interfered. I am a dabbler and have dabbled all my life at this or that. Well, I'm done dabbling! It is my intention, in my search for Lola, to relearn how to live with purpose and courage. I will be intentional in being the best mom to all my kids, intentional in becoming a wonderful nurse, and intentional in rediscovering the passions Lola once pursued; passions for creating art and beauty, for food and wine that feed the soul, and for friendships that fill the heart! (that sounded a little like something Lola would say!)

Whilst I don't anticipate anyone else reading these ramblings, I do trust that writing in such a public way will keep the most important parts of this journey 'transparent" and true. If you have stumbled up me here feel free to offer up your words of wisdom. We all learn from each other, and we all have something to offer.
